Many people might be asking "Hey, why did you read a thin book that any 1st grader could read, especially by Scholastic and how could it ever measure up to books like Between the Shades of Grey or many other popular holocaust books out today?" It doesn't measure up in fact, but it does have an important message and is part of the Holocaust history. Since it is a true story and was not found as a dead girl's diary, the story ends with Lola getting out alive. She is reunited with her last living relative and lives with them for then on after.
The book matters and is valuable because its a part of history. Instead of being a fictional story, its true and part of the archive of what had happened in the Holocaust. Its not in beautiful detail like other books but its real and emotional accounts of what happened to her tell a lot. Her experiences tie directly into the most valuable message the book brings which is 3 things actually... 1. No matter what religion or race , we are all equal. 2. Prejudices can over come us. 3. Dont let History repeat itself. These messages make it even more valuable because people will be learning these lessons. Not only will they be reading an important part of history they will also be using these lessons for life. ( more will be added )

In my book, The Hidden girl, a Jewish girl named Lola is victim to the Holocaust. When her mother is killed By a Gestapo, she is sent to hide with a Women. But when someone threatens to expose her , she needs to hide again. The story is mostly about her experience( since it's a true story ) and where she hides/ who shes sent off to.
Now, there are many other stories from many other girls and women from many other wars. One of these examples is the book He Named me Malala. The way it connects with my book, The Hidden Girl, is that both of them are young girls in a very hard situation. Both of them wanted to make change. the differences are that One has choose right after her experience to share about it and the other took years and used her experience to tell people "Don't do this ever in history again." The Hidden Girl also relates to society today because of the idea of ostracizing another religion heavily. Right now in the US, many Muslims are pushed away by society for practicing their religion. Muslims are not being put into concentration camps, but the Holocaust started the same way as political leaders were opposed to one religion which intern created social backlash and wariness. Most social hate/race wars start this way. The difference is that some people have a good reason to fear Muslims, as terrorists show up each week on the news. Jews back then didn't do anything horrible like 9/11 in fact they strengthened Germany's economy. We can only wait and see what happens in the future. The Holocaust taught us not to hate others because their race or religion. But we will she who learned the lesson well and who did not. In my book The Hidden Girl, The Holocaust is happening and the main character, Lola is writing about her experiences in each place she gets hidden in and each place she's passed on. The Holocaust was a extermination and oppression against Jews , Roman Catholics, Gays and many more types of people. Jews were targeted the absolute most as you can see in most pictures taken of the mass graves and the ghettos. They were treated like less than dirt and different than most other people. They were taken up in the night from there ghettos and exterminated in large gas chambers at the concentration camps, which were usually in the middle of nowhere. This was so nobody would know they were there or that this was happening.
To get away from this, Jews would hide in other people's houses in false ceilings and in the walls of some homes. Jews sometimes if caught, would rat out each other not wanting the other to get away with hiding and know they got caught instead of the other family. These things both happened to Lola in the book. Lola had to hide many times in the book , over and over again. One was in a itchy and lice infested hay bales and the other hiding spot (before the barn ) was in a Ukrainian woman's house. This is where she almost got caught by the other Jewish family giving away her hiding spot, luckily Lola blended into the wall in all senses. People in germany didn't like or love the anti semitic propaganda that was being put out there but the only people that would speak up were the anti semites themselves. This is what made Germany in the social sense , seem more anti semite than it should. Most Germans didn't know that the holocaust was happening at that time, and neither did most Jews. But the discrimination part the jews knew a lot about. They just wanted it to all be over soon and go back to their normal lives. Lola was the same way, wanting to get back to her old life and to her family, no matter what and would hang onto them no matter what. Some other connections between WW2/Holocaust and my book, The Hidden Girl was that the book mentioned the Soviet Union coming into Germany and helping the jews. In the book, She is saved by here uncle in the Soviet Union and travels with him and his wife. An issue that is starting to gain more attention is school condition. When school condition isn’t well maintained it can interfere with education. This is a problem because students can be distracted by the interior or the exterior of the school. School Beautification can also affect how new students choose a school to attend. If the school looks unprofessional or old, people are less likely to send their children to that particular school. However, if the school looks peaceful and shows signs of honesty and trust, people will have a positive outlook on that school. Currently our school shows examples of school beautification within; a wall mural outside the cafeteria, cleaning the school on a daily basis, and our school maintains the football field in a somewhat good way. Some specific items are school needs include; a renovated outdoor basketball court(Repaint Baselines/Sidelines, fix the mascot on the fence, put a school spirited graffiti image on the halfcourt), put a mural on the brick wall near carpool, plant a garden in an open grass area. We are interested in this issue for many reasons. The interior/exterior view of a school can change a whole perspective. More students will be enthusiastic about attending school on a daily basis. We as a group, believe that, there are many possible methods to make our school a better place for all grades and individuals. Our community should definitely care about school beautification for many important reasons. If a building is well maintained and looks nice, it is more probable that more students attend the school. In our specific case, if more kids attend Martin, the businesses around the area such as; bruegger's bagels, Chick Fil A, and the Crabtree Valley Mall, are more likely to drag customers from our school. In order to build a proper educative environment it is important to look professional from first sight. Mainly because, new 5th graders that are on their way to graduate, and attend our school, care about those small but major things. School beautification is important because; it encourages rising 6th graders to pick our school, help us to focus in class more, and our school looks more professional from a visual view. School beautification is a big deal in our community. We want are schools to reflect good things about our community. If our schools aren't neat it affects the kids that go to the school and the other people in our community. This has been a problem in communities around the world for a long time and we need to start respecting and cleaning our schools. We need to show of our communities in good ways by cleaning our schools and making them look more inviting and fun. This is a problem in our community because many kids learn better in good clean environments. If the school looks like a prison kids won't wanna go and there parents probably don't wanna send them. Schools also reflect on our community and if people see a school that's not clean or nice then it reflects that our community isn't that nice or clean. Also companies that are trying to move employees down here won't wanna come if the community isn't nice. If we took the time to beautify our schools more people would come to our schools. There is one problem though budget cuts. We don't have enough money to get all the supplies to beautify our schools. It costs a lot of money to add or clean things in our school and we don't have the time the money or even enough people. We need to get the whole school to work together to beautify our schools. We only get certain amounts of money to clean our school. One of the solutions is a School Beautification day. Many other Wake County schools have already implanted a day for School Beautification. Athens Drive has developed a seven year landscaping improvement plan that they have been working on since 2013, They have also painted a mural with in their school. Lake Wylie Elementary school has also had a bed garden made (with help from The Mecklenburg Farm Bureau) and a tree planting day were they planted tons of trees around the campus. Gardens are another way to spruce up a school. Gardens make a school look lively and healthy in a way, Other schools have made gardens for teaching classes, for food and for butterfly migration. School gardens can also help with other causes too. The Mitchell Math and Science Academy in South Carolina had harvested 400 sweet potatoes then served to the students at the academy. Walker Jones Education Campus has built a garden for the public to see, making the school look beautiful to the public. There are organizations that encourage schools and give grants to schools for School Beautification. American in Bloom lists plenty of grants for all kinds of gardens, public art, and tree planting. Artspace encourages school public art and NC State encourages school gardens. Overall, it's more of big organizations supporting school beautification. ACTION PLAN HERE Food Deserts are all over NC. In fact, there are more than 340 food deserts in 80 counties! Food deserts are a shortage of food in a community. In some cases, people walk 2 miles to get to a grocery store and come back , carrying all of their food they bought.
This interests me because i know many people that live in food deserts and i feel as if everyone needs food and should get it reasonably. Food Deserts affect communities at school too. Children, without food can't focus and do their work just as good as other kids who are fed well. Food deserts usually have higher rates of obesity and diabetes due to concentrated foods everywhere. This is why people should care about this issue. You can change this by growing your own food in your backyard and sell it at a low price (2.00$=2 tomatoes.) You can also build a grocery shop in your community and sell fresh food at farmer's markets. My personality is rude and bitter, not because i like to but because i think most people either hate me or absolute a holes. I am nice to some people though... When i am, I'm caring but honest, if you screw up you screwed up. I'm the type of person who hates people because they annoy me from past experiences.
In Fayetteville, a woman starved her dog, Princess to death and tried to cover it up. There were no other ways this dog could have died, other than starvation. Another dog/puppy in Cumberland county had been thrown into a lake to drown. Apparently, there has been a rise in animal abuse cases in Wake and Cumberland County. The reason why this concerns me is that my school and my neighborhood is located in Wake County
Animal abuse is a cruel thing to do to any animal, snake or horse. I have seen many animals in my neighborhood die to animal abuse... my neighbor had given her dog, Oreo away because she was going to be caught. I am affected by this because i have formed friendships with many of neighbors animals, only for them to be given away or die from heat exhaustion/starvation. People should care about animal abuse in their neighborhoods because animals like Eclipse (died of drowning) and Princess didn't live there full life. I usually imagine if that was a 3 year old , chained outside starving to death with their ribs caving in.. but replace that with a dog in the same situation, Some won't help because it's not there species, but really think.. every video and recording of a dog yelping because its legs are being burned off, they feel the same pain as we do. They deserve much better than they get. THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP: - If you see a dog chained up in a yard, ask them how there dog is doing or try to be there friend and infiltrate their personal life , learning if they truly do abuse the dog. If they dont, congrats! You have 2 new friends, a dog and a person! - Call Animal Control
Immigrants have it harder than any other American when they get through the American border. Right now, There have been bans passed by the current president which block people from some Middle Eastern countries from coming in the USA. Many Americans feel like there are too many immigrants in the country flooding from Mexico and taking there jobs. This hatred discourages Immigrants from trusting the government and the neighborhood.
I take interest in the issue because it is a hot topic in the news right now , like in CNN and FOX News. It mostly consists of the statistics , people's opinion and what is happening with certain Immigration issues. I feel as if they sometimes don't report on something and report on other things more, which sometimes puts immigrants in a bad spot. The solution i have for the scrutiny that Immigrants get is if the US Government puts out statistics about Immigrants (crime rates, housing, government services) and why it's happening. They could also be more immigrant friendly in government services. |
